Development of Jharkhand Forest

The subject of forestry & wildlife deals with formulation of overall forest policy, enactment of laws and rules and issues governing conservation and management of forests and wildlife. Capacity building of the forestry personnel and arranging induction professional training courses is an essential part of the mandate of the Forest Department.

Keeping in view the changing scenario in forestry, the responsibilities of the foresters are expected to have much broader technological and socio-economic implications than handled by the foresters in the past. The shift from the maximisation of Government revenue from the forests to the management of forest resources for providing various goods and services to the society, consistent with environmental conservation, demand radical changes in the duties and responsibilities of the forester. The management of the forests for providing various goods and services to the society as opposed to their management mainly for timber production has resulted in growing public interest in forest resources and in the need for more information about these resources and also in greater degree of peoples' participation in decision-making and management.

It is now widely accepted that the future of food, health and livelihood security depends upon the attention paid to the proper management of natural resources vis a vis much needed financial investments in the forestry sector. The forests are crucial for humankind, but there is an ever increasing demand for the forest resources for goods and services.

Natural resource management is expected to play a key role in the development of Jharkhand in the years to come. The government stands committed, to bring about a new ethos of people-centered, growth-oriented governance in the state. Forests resources constitute a critical lifeline for poor forest dwellers by providing them sustenance and livelihood. Therefore the government is trying to achieve maximum benefits to the poorest sections of the society living in the vicinity of the forest resources through the Joint Forest Management (JFM) of invaluable forest resources of the Jharkhand State .
